Small Hare
- Only available with a membership
- Discover an illustrative style
- Use anatomy to inform your fur layers
Level: Intermediate
This is a very different way of drawing and you'll want a good fur technique.
Illustrative Style
This piece is far less painterly and we will explore pastel pencils in a different light.
Videos and Downloads
Gain access to 12 video lessons and a downloadable PDF guide with reference images, too.
A New Style
Instead of the normal underpainting process, this miniature hare uses fine details right from the start. We will use pastel pencils to create an illustrative effect - perfect for a nursery room.
Anatomy
Even though this hare drawing is very illustrative, we will actually use anatomy to bring it to life. Instead of a structural underpainting using tones, we will use fur direction to show the structures beneath the skin.

The whole piece will be kept simple and use a reduced colour palette. See how we can add grasses without them over taking the work.
Dark to Light?
For this piece, we will be using pastel pencils in a whole new way! No strict dark-to-light rules, instead, we build up textures using a variety of pencils all at once. This class should help unlock your creative side and see pastel pencils in a whole new light.
